ISO 9001

What is ISO 9001?

ISO 9001:2008 is an international standard that gives requirements for an organisation’s Quality Management System (QMS). It has recently been updated from the previous ISO 9001:2000 version. The changes are minimal. ISO 9001:2008 is part of a family of standards published by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) often referred to collectively as the ISO 9000 series.

ISO 9001:2008 is based on eight management principles. These are:
•  Customer focus
•  Leadership
•  Involvement of people
•  Process approach
•  System approach to management
•  Continual improvement
•  Factual approach to decision making
•  Mutually beneficial supplier relationships

Why should my organization implement ISO 9001?
Many companies see the introduction of a quality management system as a major step forward in controlling and improving their key processes. Others simply react to customer demands that their suppliers should have suitable systems.

Why should my organization apply for ISO 9001 certification?
Satisfactory assessment of your management system leads to the award of a certificate of registration. The value of a certificate of registration and its credibility depends on the organisation that issues it and the status that the organization has gained in the market place. Benefits of ISO 9001:2008
•  Reduce operating costs because of fewer nonconforming products, less rework, lowered rejection rates, streamlined processes and fewer mistakes.
•  Access to new markets
•  Client satisfaction.
•  Improve competitiveness.
•  Improved risk management
•  Demonstrate credentials
•  Improve your market potential domestically and internationally.
•  Improve stakeholder relationships
